Summry
Structural weather resistant steel is a special low-alloy steel designed to form a protective oxide layer when exposed to the atmosphere. This natural coating reduces corrosion, improves durability, and eliminates the need for regular painting, making it ideal for bridges, buildings, and outdoor structures.
Why BIS Certificate is Mandatory for Structural Weather resistant steel. ?
BIS certification is mandatory to ensure structural weather resistant steel meets Indian Standards for strength, chemical composition, corrosion resistance, and weldability. Certification prevents the use of inferior steel in critical structures, ensures public safety, maintains construction quality, and supports long-term structural reliability under Indian environmental conditions.
What is BIS Certified for Steels for Structural Weather resistant steel. ?
The BIS certified specification for structural weather resistant steel defines limits for alloying elements, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, testing methods, and inspection requirements. It ensures the steel achieves controlled atmospheric corrosion behavior, adequate load-bearing capacity, and suitability for structural fabrication and outdoor exposure.

Benefits of BIS Certification for Structural Weather resistant steel.
1. Assured Structural Safety BIS certification guarantees that weather resistant steel meets prescribed strength and toughness requirements, ensuring safety in load-bearing structures.
2. Superior Corrosion Performance Certified steel forms a stable protective oxide layer, reducing corrosion and extending the service life of structures exposed to harsh environments.
3. Lower Maintenance Costs BIS-approved weathering steel minimizes the need for painting and frequent maintenance, resulting in long-term cost savings.
4. Regulatory and Legal Compliance BIS certification is mandatory in India, allowing manufacturers and suppliers to participate in construction projects without legal or compliance risks.
5. Enhanced Market and Project Acceptance BIS-certified steel is preferred in government projects, infrastructure development, and export markets, improving credibility and business opportunities.
Procedure to get BIS Certified
The ISI & FMCS are two BIS Certification schemes applied to a helmet in India. We see them one by one in both procedures.
Note: For Detailed Information about the Procedure for BIS ISI Certification
ISI Certification Process
- Documentations: Prepared all the vital documents before filling out the application.
- Filling the application Form: Fill out the application, submit all the required documents, and pay the certification fees and other procedures.
- Factory inspection will be conducted: BIS Officer and BIS authorized team will visit manufacturing premises. And take some product samples for testing.
- Test of product samples: The product sample is tested by BIS authorized Laboratory.
- Examination of Product test report: The BIS officer and inspection team verify the test report and other documents. A review of the test report and other documents sent the test report to BIS.
- ISI Mark certification granted: After all processes are completed, the BIS is issued ISI Certification for your product.
FMCS Certification Process
- Submission of application: Fill out the application and submit all the required documents. And submit the requisite fee for the process to obtain certification.
- Factory inspection will be conducted: The BIS Officer and inspection team visit the factory premises for inspection or manufacturing process of the product. And take some products as a sample for testing.
- Test of product samples: After the inspection of the factory, the product sample tested in BIS authorized Laboratory.
- Payment of license fee advance minimum marking fee: Before granting a license, an applicant must pay a license fee and advance minimum marking fee.
- Payment of performance bank guarantee & issuance of certification: Once the payment has been made, an agreement & indemnity bond will be signed, & USD dollar 10,000 Performance bank guarantee must be immediately furnished after a license grant.
- The agreement & indemnity bond will be signed: The FMCS Certificate will be issued if the product complies with BIS Standards.
